Dropcam Setup and Review

commentsIn this video, I unbox and setup my brand new Dropcam HD Wi-Fi Video Montoring Camera, in real time. I show how long it really took me to setup this Home Security Camera for my front door. I show the un-boxing, simply to help anyone wondering if their product is missing anything, when they first open it.

One cool thing about the Dropcam Wifi Security  Camera is that it has two-way audio built in, so it could be used for a front door intercom camera, as long as you have a covered front entry. (The camera is not weatherproof). This way I could tell a solicitor to beat it, without even opening the front door. 🙂

I’ve made two videos on the topic of ways to mount the Dropcam outside.  In one I kick around ideas of different ways to mount the dropcam outdoors.  In the Dropcam Birdhouse video, I put my plan into action!  You find those by scrolling down to related videos (below).

Dropcam also makes another version called Dropcam Pro, which has a wider view, which you could consider.  For me and this location, this one is plenty wide for my front door camera. You can pickup Dropcam HD on Amazon or purchase one directly from the Dropcam website.

Have you tried a Dropcam or Dropcam Pro yet? I’m interested in hearing what you thought of it; or what security camera you like. Add your two cents in the comments below!

    Hey Mimi,

I just watched your “Dropcam Unplugged” video and I think it’s a great idea. So I went to ebay to try and find the battery with just so so luck. But I searched for “rechargeable battery for ipad” and came up with all sorts of batteries, even solar chargers. You could use your rechargeable battery to power the Dropcam and use the solar charger to charge up the rechargeable battery while the sun is out. Just an idea.

    Thanks,
    Allan

    Hi Allan,
Hmm, that’s an interesting idea! I’m in California, where sunny days are pretty abundant. Now you’ve got the wheels turning in my head again! 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion!

    Greetings Mimi ,

i was watching your Dropcam first setup video and some of the commentary called my attention of course that was a year ago from a certain Lisa Connie Brighton , having the same issue like i do right now .

When i am trying to set my new nest cam formally Dropcam , after joining my existing account , i got the error message :

Wireless network found but could not acquire a network address. Please make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router and MAC filtering is disabled.

Can you please advise on that ?
I have already contacted the Nest team support unfortunately didn’t get the help i need instead i was told it might be a hardware issue .
S i’ve got a second cam and still with the same error .

    Thank you in advance,
