I’ve been trying to think of a good way to mount my Dropcam on my front porch. Not necessarily a hidden camera; just one that blends nicely into the architectural decor, shall we say. I’d rather have something that looks like a piece of garden art, than a big eyeball at my front door, you know?
While I’m satisfied with the way the Dropcam works when setup in my front window, facing out; I just don’t like the way it looks there. Visually, it just seems to call attention to itself. I also want to be able to take advantage of the audio capability of this security camera, so I can use it as a front door 2-way intercom.
In this video, I kick around 5 different ways I’m considering as a way to make a good-looking outdoor housing for my front door Dropcam. Each of these setups cost only about $10 each! Take a look and let me know if you think they will work? Have you come up with a good hidden Dropcam idea? Please leave your suggestions in the comments!
Dropcam also makes another version called Dropcam Pro, which has a wider view, which you could consider. For me and this location, this one is plenty wide for my front door camera. You can pickup Dropcam HD on Amazon or purchase one directly from the Dropcam website.
Don’t forget to check out my other Dropcam Videos: sort of an unboxing, setup and review of my new Dropcam HD video. And also the follow-up to this video, where I put the Birdhouse idea into action! (See Related Posts below)
So …. tell me what you think! Will any of these ideas work for you? Got a better idea? Let me know in the comments below!
